New Delhi: Days after a 40-year-old woman was repeatedly attacked with a sharp weapon while resisting a chain-snatching attempt in south Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park, police have arrested the two snatchers involved in the case.
Delhi police has also apprehended two other men, including a jeweller, who were allegedly involved in buying and selling the stolen chain.The two main accused, Ravi (43) and Rishu (46), who were each involved in ten previous cases, were caught during coordinated raids in Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.In addition to the snatchers, the cops also nabbed a jeweller and a middleman named Monu, who allegedly assisted in selling the stolen chain.According to police, “The accused claimed that the woman resisted the snatching, following which they attacked her and fled the scene.
The cops have recovered some parts of stolen items.The incident took place around 4pm near Bangiya Samaj, close to Market No. 1 on Sunday. In CCTV footage, the woman can be seen walking along the road when a man, his face covered and wearing a helmet, begins following her. Another man, his accomplice, also wearing a helmet, is seen waiting ahead on a motorcycle.Moments later, the man trailing the woman suddenly lunges forward, grabbing her by the neck and hair to snatch the jewellery. He then drags her across the road in a corner while holding onto her neck and pushes her to the ground, where he repeatedly attacks her with a weapon and physically assaults her. The assailant then walks towards the motorcycle, where his accomplice is waiting, and the two flee the spot.
