Surat: A court here sentenced a 46-year-old man, Rabiul Shaikh, to life imprisonment till his last breath for raping a 12-year-old girl in Amroli.The offence took place in Feb last year. The crime came to light after the child became pregnant, prompting her family to approach police.
An offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act was registered against Shaikh on April 26, 2025.
After the complaint, an investigation was conducted under Amroli police inspectors J B Vanar and D K Patel. Based on scientific and other evidence, police arranged for the termination of the victim’s pregnancy and filed a chargesheet on May 27. Relying on this evidence, the special Pocso court sentenced Shaikh to a life term till his last breath and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. The court also ordered compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the victim.
