Toddler drowns at construction site in Fatehpur Beri farmhouse; contractor arrested

New Delhi: A two-and-a-half-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at an under-construction farmhouse in south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri, prompting police to arrest the contractor and register a case of causing death by negligence. The incident occurred on April 8 around 6.15 pm. The child, whose parents are labourers employed at the site, is believed to have wandered into the area while playing. Police said he accidentally fell into the pool, which was under construction, and drowned. The family had been living at the site for the past three months after moving from Bihar’s Bhagalpur in search of work. Both parents were working as labourers on the same plot where the farmhouse is being built. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead, police said.Investigators are examining whether adequate safety measures were in place around the pool. Preliminary findings suggest the area was not properly secured, with no barriers preventing the toddler from accessing the construction zone.Police arrested the contractor, Raj Karan, and registered a case under sections related to causing death due to negligence.
