Kidney transplant racket: ₨ 25K bounty on gang’s ringleader, 2 associates

Kanpur: Dr Rohit, the suspected mastermind of a kidney transplant racket, and his associates Dr Mudassar Ali and Dr Afzal are now wanted, with the police announcing Rs 25,000 rewards each for the trio.So far, nine people have been jailed, and 12 others are under police scanner.The case came to light on Mar 30, after a kidney transplant of a Muzaffarnagar woman was carried out at Ahuja Hospital in Keshav Puram. A student from Begusarai, Bihar, sold his kidney through middlemen.The kidney transplant was performed by Dr Ali and Dr Afzal, along with Dr Rohit. Their team included OT manager Rajesh Kumar and OT in-charge Kuldeep Singh.Dr Rohit, a Delhi NCR resident, allegedly led the kidney transplant gang, handling anesthesia before operations. Dr Afzal, formerly of Alpha Hospital, Meerut, reportedly found patients and donors. Dr Ali allegedly performed the operation on the Muzaffarnagar woman.
