In pitiful Delhi, deaths don’t change a thing

By: Photos and text by Jatin KumarNEW DELHI: Unprotected trenches, poor safety measures and ongoing sewer line construction continue to endanger commuters along Shooting Range Road in Sangam Vihar, forcing motorists and pedestrians to navigate risky, uneven paths.

-

The situation raises serious concerns in light of the recent Janakpuri pit death case, where a 25-year-old biker lost his life after falling into an open, unguarded excavation.

-

Ironically, only on Thursday, Delhi Police filed an 877-page chargesheet in the Feb 6 tragedy holding three individuals accountable for safety lapses.

-

None of the authorities were, however, held accountable. TOI has repeatedly highlighted how civic apathy has consistently put lives at risk in Delhi.
