NEW DELHI: Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam had a scary moment during a PSL 2026 match against Lahore Qalandars when a sharp bouncer from Ubaid Shah hit his helmet. The incident happened early in the innings, and although he was checked by the physio and underwent a concussion test, Babar continued to bat.

Despite the early scare and the quick loss of a wicket, Babar and Kusal Mendis steadied the innings. Mendis played aggressively while Babar anchored the innings with a calm approach. Together, they built a crucial 109-run partnership. Babar scored 43 runs before getting out, helping his team recover on a pitch that favoured bowlers. At the end of the innings, they posted 173/7 in 20 overs. The match also turned special for Babar as he became the first player to reach 4000 runs in the PSL, achieving the milestone during his innings.

This puts him ahead of other top performers in the league and adds another record to his name.Speaking about the match at the toss, Babar said, “The preparation stays the same. The break that we got earlier, we practiced a lot under the sun.”He added, “The conditions are slightly different I feel, though the pitch is the same that we played on a couple of nights ago. Hopefully, we play well.”Talking about the team’s bowling strength, he said, “The spinners always dominate here. Iftikhar’s experience with the ball helps. We are blessed with a combination that is helping us out a lot in these conditions.”
