Meerut: In a horrific incident, a 75-year-old retired clerk from the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad allegedly left for Haridwar around four months ago, leaving his daughter’s corpse locked at home.

Uday Bhan Biswas’s daughter Priyanka Biswas, 35, a former schoolteacher, had died of black jaundice in December last year, and her father, instead of conducting her last rites, left the body lying on the bed.

Police found her remains — a skeleton with decaying flesh left only on one of her limbs — on Friday night.According to cops, Biswas had sprayed the corpse with plenty of perfume, remained at his house in Meerut’s Sadar area for a couple of days and then quietly slipped away, keeping his relatives and neighbours in the dark about the death. The truth surfaced on Friday evening when one of his relatives, Bishwajeet, spotted him at a market in Meerut. “He initially kept giving vague replies. I called my other relatives also and brought him to our house. When we all confronted him, he admitted Priyanka died around four months ago and he had gone off to Haridwar, leaving her body at home. I approached police soon after,” Bishwajeet said.Navina Shukla, circle officer (Sadar), said, “It was a horror house when our personnel entered.

The entire place was cluttered with garbage. Priyanka’s body had transitioned into a skeleton, lying on a bed. Her remains have been sent for a detailed medical examination and forensic analysis.”Biswas was thereafter taken into custody for questioning. His neighbour Ritu Devi said, “Biswas usually kept to himself though his daughter used to go for work.”SHO (Sadar) Inder Pal Singh shared more disturbing details. Singh said, “During questioning, it was learnt that Biswas’s wife Sharmistha had committed suicide in 2013. He and his daughter believed relatives had done some kind of black magic resulting in her death. And they started leading a reclusive life. During his daughter’s illness, instead of proper treatment, he had opted for ‘ojhas’ to cure her.”
