Missing man found dead with 3 bullet wounds in Ghaziabad drain

GHAZIABAD: The body of a 32-year-old man, who was missing since Thursday, was recovered from a drain in Chiranjeevi Vihar on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Bamheta village, who sustained three bullet injuries. An FIR was registered against unknown persons based on a complaint filed by his wife, Chital. During the investigation, however, police found that the victim had two wives. According to police, Jitendra’s mobile phone was last traced to a location about 100 metres from the spot where his body was discovered, near a railway track. Officials said that when police called the number, someone answered but switched off the phone before investigators could reach the area. Kavi Nagar ACP Suryabali Maurya said police were alerted by a local resident about a body lying in the drain on Friday morning. “A team was immediately dispatched to the spot. The body was sent for post-mortem, and efforts were initiated to establish the identity of the deceased. We later contacted a woman, Chital Chauhan, 30, who identified the body as her husband Jitendra, a grocery shop owner in Bamheta village,” he said.

Chauhan told police that she was married to Jitendra for 12 years and the couple has two children. The family resides above their grocery shop. She said Jitendra left home on his two-wheeler on Thursday evening, but did not return. When her calls went unanswered later that night, she approached the police. Police recovered Jitendra’s two-wheeler near Diamond Flyover, about 500 metres from where the body was found. “We suspect that the accused lured the victim to the Diamond Flyover area and then took him near the railway line, where he was shot before the body was dumped in the drain. We are analysing call detail records and questioning family members,” Maurya said. He added that a case was registered under Section 103 (murder) at Kavi Nagar police station. “Five teams have been formed to trace the accused, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined,” he said.
