Actor Arya described the challenging underwater stunt sequences for his upcoming film ‘Mr. X.’ Filmed in a 20-foot deep diving pool with water at 15-16 degrees Celsius, Arya held his breath for 30-40 seconds to avoid shivering while performing shirtless. These demanding scenes, requiring long underwater durations and special communication, were crucial for the film’s realistic visuals.
Actor Arya is gearing up for the release of his upcoming action thriller, ‘Mr. X,’ directed by Manu Anand. The film also stars Gautham Karthik, Manju Warrier, and Sarathkumar in important roles and is scheduled to hit theaters on April 17.
As the release date approaches, the cast and crew have begun promoting the film actively.
Now, Arya spoke about the intense underwater action scenes shot for the movie. He confessed that those were the hardest parts of making the movie. According to the actor, the team worked hard to make the underwater scenes look realistic and visually impressive for audiences.
Arya reveals how underwater fight scenes were filmed
Speaking about the experience through a video on X (Twitter), Arya explained that the scenes were shot in a special diving pool in Mumbai.
He said, “To show the deep sea realistically, we filmed these scenes in a diving swimming pool that was around 20 feet deep.” The actor added that underwater action scenes in films are usually shot in water that is only about six feet deep. “But for this film, we had to go nearly 20 feet underwater, which made it much more challenging,” he said.
Arya mentioned that the team wanted the visuals to feel authentic, so they decided to shoot the scenes at a greater depth.
This decision, however, made the shooting process physically demanding for the actors and crew.
Cold water and breath control made the shoot tougher
The actor also revealed that the water temperature was extremely cold during filming. “The water temperature was around 15 to 16 degrees Celsius, and I had to act without wearing a shirt,” Arya shared. He explained that shivering is natural in such cold conditions, but he had to control it while performing the scenes. “I had to hold my breath for nearly 30 to 40 seconds so that my body wouldn’t shake in front of the camera,” he said.
According to him, this required a lot of focus and physical effort. Arya admitted that it was one of the toughest challenges he faced during the making of the film.
Long hours underwater for a single sequence
Another major difficulty was the long hours spent underwater during filming. Arya explained that once the team went underwater, they had to stay there for a long time to save shooting time. “Once we went underwater, we stayed there for nearly one and a half to two hours along with the camera team,” he said. Communication with the director was also done through special speakers and microphones placed underwater. Arya said he followed instructions from Manu Anand while performing the action scenes.
Despite the difficulties, the actor said he felt happy after seeing the final result on screen and believes audiences will understand the effort that went into creating those scenes.
