Kanimozhi explains why DMK promised Rs 8,000 coupons and not cash

While campaigning in Chennai, Kanimozhi explained the idea behind the announcement of coupons.

CHENNAI: While AIADMK’s election manifesto promised a free refrigerator for every rice ration card holder, DMK promised to issue coupons worth Rs 8,000 for the same category. But why coupons, and not money? On Wednesday, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi explained the idea behind the announcement of coupons. “If we deposit cash in your account, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take them as the fine for not maintaining minimum balance or else men in the family will take the money and it will not be useful for women. If coupons are given, women can buy household objects useful for them to reduce their burdens. If women feel that washing clothes is difficult, they can buy washing machines or if they feel that grinding flour is difficult, they can get grinders,” Kanimozhi said while campaigning in Chennai.
