Tamanna Bhatia's appeal against Power Soaps dismissed by Madras high court, Rs 1 crore compensation denied

CHENNAI: Madras high court on Thursday dismissed an appeal moved by actor Tamanna Santhosh Bhatia challenging rejection of her petition for Rs 1 crore compensation from Power Soaps Limited unauthorised use of her images to sell their products.

Refusing to entertain an appeal moved by Tamanna challenging a single judge order that dismissed her plea, a division bench of Justice P Velmurugan and Justice K Govindarajan Thilakavadi confirmed the order of the single judge. According to Tamanna, she signed an agreement with Power Soaps Limited on October 7, 2008, that she would endorse the company’s products until October 6, 2009. However, while she was involved in discussions to endorse products of another company in the last quarter of 2010, it was brought to her notice that Power Soaps Limited continued to use her image to sell their products, in particular on the wrappers of soaps manufactured during November 2010 and February 2011, she said.

Though notices were sent to the company and its agency, J&D Communication Private Limited, on January 18, 2011, and February 1, 2011, the replies were evasive, she alleged. Therefore, she moved a suit claiming compensation of Rs 1 crore for the violation.
