The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Harshvardhan Jain who is accused of posing as a diplomat and operating a fake embassy of fictitious nations from a rented house in Ghaziabad district.
PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Harshvardhan Jain, accused of posing as a diplomat and operating a fake embassy of fictitious countries from a rented house in Ghaziabad, officials said.Jain was arrested last year for allegedly running the racket from the Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad.In its April 2 order, the court observed that considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the nature of allegations, severity of punishment in the event of conviction, and the supporting evidence, a case for bail was made out, without commenting on the merits of the case.“Accordingly, the bail application is allowed,” the order stated.According to officials, Jain allegedly posed as a consul or ambassador of non-existent countries such as Westarctica, Saborga, Poulvia and Lodonia. He was also accused of using diplomatic number plates on his vehicles and cheating people in the name of providing employment.Police had earlier said he was running a fake embassy operation from the rented premises.(With agency inputs)
