I am back: Rajat Bedi

The actor says his return to the spotlight marks a full-circle moment, bringing him back to his modelling roots

Rajat Bedi, who started his career with modelling, recently walked the ramp at Bombay Times Fashion Week, recalling his earlier days with a sense of nostalgia and disbelief at how life has come full circle.

He says, “My career started with me wanting to get into modelling or fashion. In 1994. I took part in Manhunt International, and I won the title. I was the first title winner, and I was sent to Australia for the world final. I came third. That was my entry into the fashion world.”While fashion marked his entry, it is his recent return to the screen that has brought him back into the spotlight in a way he admits he is still processing.

“The love I’ve got after Ba**ds Of Bollywood is crazy,” he says.

Having stepped away after an active film career and relocating to Canada, Bedi’s re-entry into the industry feels almost serendipitous. “I got launched in ’97, next year will be 30 years. I just feel very fortunate and blessed that I got an opportunity again. There’s some kind of blessing on me. To be honest, I still can’t fathom what’s happening with me. Even walking for a fashion show, being back in the spotlight after a gap of 20 years feels surreal.

I remember how one day suddenly Aryan (Khan) called me and the next thing, I was in Ba**ds of Bollywood.”The actor further adds, “I’ve got so much love from all over the world, from the media, from the entertainment industry. I’ve got 13 awards in three months. I don’t know what’s going on. But yes, I am back.”
