GURGAON: A 16-year-old Class 10 student allegedly died by suicide at his home in Gurgaon after the CBSE Class 10 results were declared, police said on Thursday.Police suspect that the student, identified as Kunal, may have taken the extreme step after being upset over not meeting his expectations in the examination.

“It is suspected that the student took this step after seeing his results and not scoring as expected.

Further investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said. The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Baba Hardeva Colony in the Jatoli area under Pataudi police station limits.According to family members, Kunal had performed well but was disappointed with his marks. They said he was encouraged by his parents to consider reappearing for the exam, but he later became depressed.Police said that after the results were announced, Kunal went to a room on the terrace while other family members were in another part of the house. When they later went upstairs, they found the room locked from inside. After breaking open the door, they found him hanging, police said.Kunal was a student of a private school. His father, a Railway employee, had reportedly booked a laptop for him after the results were declared, officials said.Police reached the spot after being informed and sent the body for postmortem examination. No suicide note was found.(With PTI inputs)
