Temporary Harsil lake a concern: Harish Rawat

Uttarkashi: Former chief minister Harish Rawat on Monday termed the temporary 400–500 metre-long lake formed in Harsil after last year’s Dharali floods “extremely alarming” and warned of risks during the monsoon.During his visit to Uttarkashi on Thursday, Rawat said he was returning from Harsil with “anxiety and apprehension.”He also urged the govt take immediate steps to rehabilitate those affected by last year’s disaster in Dharali, with the same urgency and commitment shown after the 2013 Kedarnath disaster.Rawat also sought loan waiver and a special policy for those who suffered losses while living on govt land.Rawat also flagged land subsidence in the Bhatwari region and said immediate measures must be taken to secure the area.Questioning Char Dham yatra preparations, he said roads, parking and basic amenities remain inadequate to handle the increasing number of pilgrims.
