As pet ownership rises in India, safety concerns have led to bans on certain powerful dog breeds in cities like Chandigarh. Breeds such as Pitbull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Cane Corsos, and American Staffordshire Terriers are highlighted for their strength and potential for aggression if not properly trained and managed, prompting discussions on responsible pet ownership.

Dogs are our best pals and living with dogs brings joy, but safety concerns have sparked tough conversations across India about certain breeds. As pet ownership booms in crowded cities, incidents involving powerful dogs chasing and endangering people have increased, due to which some dogs breeds also faced bans in cities like Chandigarh. Here are some dog breeds that are aggressive and could be dangerous

Pitbull terrier

Pitbull Terriers are popularly known for their power and history in dogfighting. These muscular companions can weigh 50-70 lbs with jaws exerting 235 psi bite force, per breed stats. Bred for tenacity, poor training can turn loyalty into aggression, sparking attacks.Chandigarh banned them alongside others for public safety, giving owners 45 days to register.

Despite their loving traits with families, their strength demands expert handling.

American bulldog

American Bulldogs, weighing around 60-100 lbs, were farm guardians facing bans for unpredictable power. Their broad heads and athletic builds suit protection, but escapes lead to incidents in populated areas. Loyal yet territorial, they are meant to be kept in open areas with space, not apartments, including sterilization mandates for existing ones.

Rottweiler

Rottweilers weight at around 80-135 lbs. Their confident demeanor and 328 psi bite make them formidable without firm control. Bred for herding and protection, they’re gentle giants when trained, but jaw lock incidents could be dangerous.

Cane Corso

Cane Corsos, Italian mastiffs reaching 110 lbs, are restricted for intense guarding instincts. Their athletic frames and deep loyalty suit estates, not cities, with bites around 700 psi.

Fiercely family-oriented, strangers trigger wariness.

American Staffordshire

The American Staffordshire Terrier stands out for its powerful, muscular build, renowned for loyalty, bravery, and intelligence. However, without proper socialization, this breed can show aggression towards other animals, contributing to its reputation as potentially dangerous.
