Ranchi: Opposition BJP on Friday staged stirs across various districts against steep hike in electricity rates, power cuts and irregular billing in the postpaid meters. In Ranchi, the sit-in was organised in front of the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) office in Doranda, which was attended by several MLAs and party workers.Speaking on the occasion, Ranchi MLA C P Singh claimed that the power supply system in the state has collapsed. “The common public is forced to pay more without value for money. Incorrect and erratic bills are further putting additional burden on people and the govt is least concerned. BJP will intensify the stirs if the situation doesn’t improve soon,” said Singh.Hatia MLA Naveen Jaiswal alleged that due to the negligence and corruption of the electricity department, “incorrect bills are being sent in the name of postpaid meters, which is affecting poor and middle-class families the most.
If the govt does not wake up, we will shut down the electricity department’s operations entirely.”Ranchi Mahanagar president Varun Sahu said, “Due to erratic power supply in the city, normal public life has been disrupted — business, education and household work are all being affected.”Reacting to it, Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha said, “BJP is now a party without credible issues here. Compared to their tenure, coverage of electricity network has considerably improved and so are the services. Govt is working 24/7 to further improve the services. BJP workers should question Modi govt for pushing country into inflation.”
