In a significant crackdown, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau has nabbed a revenue official and his accomplice in Purnia, as they were caught accepting a bribe of Rs40,000. This incident unfolded within the confines of the record room at the Purnia east circle office, marking the VIB’s 40th successful sting operation of the year.
Patna: A headquarters team of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Friday arrested a revenue employee and his alleged accomplice in Purnia while accepting a Rs40,000 bribe inside the record room of the Purnia east circle office.
The case is VIB’s 40th trap operation this year.The accused, Lal Babu Rajak, was posted at the Purnia east circle office. He allegedly demanded a bribe from a complainant to conduct an inquiry and submit a report in a land-related matter. Following a complaint, the VIB carried out verification, found evidence of the demand and registered a case on April 16.A raid team led by VIB DSP Amarendra Prasad Vidyarthi laid a trap and caught Rajak red-handed along with a woman accomplice, identified as Rumi Kundu, a resident of Kaptanpara under Sadar police station area in Purnia.
The two were apprehended while accepting the bribe amount in the office premises.Both accused are being questioned and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Bhagalpur. Further investigation is underway.The bureau said it has registered 45 corruption cases so far in 2026, including 40 trap cases. A total of 37 accused have been caught red-handed this year, with Rs12.81 lakh recovered as bribe money.
Meanwhile, 13 absconding accused in separate corruption cases surrendered before special courts in Feb and March following sustained legal action by the bureau. These cases are related to misuse of official positions and trap operations and pertain to districts including Patna, Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur.
