Ex-Bihar deputy CM's security downgraded, Z cover for Nishant

Patna: The state govt on Saturday downgraded the security cover of former deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha from Z+ to Z and provided Z security to JD(U) leader Nishant Kumar, the son of former CM Nitish Kumar.

Senior JD(U) leader and former minister Shrawan Kumar has been provided Y+ security with an escort.Reacting to the downgrading of his security cover, Vijay said the govt takes decisions at its own discretion.Acting on the April 17 recommendations of the state security committee, the home department wrote to DGP Vinay Kumar and the DG of the special branch regarding changes in security arrangements for state leaders.Following the formation of the new govt led by CM Samrat on April 15, security protocols for prominent political leaders have been undergoing continuous revision. On Friday, the security cover of senior JD(U) leaders and deputy chief ministers — Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav — was upgraded to Z category. The govt also decided to accord Z+ category security to Nitish, who served as Bihar CM for nearly two decades before stepping down in favour of BJP’s Samrat on April 14. Both Samrat and Vijay were deputy chief ministers in Nitish’s cabinet. Nitish is now a Rajya Sabha member.A total of 22 personnel, including four to six commandos from the NSG, CRPF or ITBP, are deployed under the Z category security cover.
