PRAYAGRAJ: The Sangam City sweltered on Sunday recording the hottest day in the state with a temperature of 44.6 degree Celsius, forcing the people to stay indoors even on a holiday.
In fact, Prayagraj was also the second hottest city in the country after Akola and Wardha in Maharashtra.The city streets wore a deserted look during the afternoon hours as people preferred to keep indoors. The strength of visitors at parks and other public places was also low. Doctors and health officials have advised the citizens to take preventive measures against extreme heatwave conditions claiming that this could cause early-season heatstroke cases and potential health emergencies.Doctors have also advised for hydration, sun protection, and safe practices to combat heat exhaustion, especially between peak hours of 12 noon to 3 pm.Dr. Anupam Dwivedi, medical officer in-charge of Soraon, CHC said, ” Citizens should take sufficient water throughout the day and increase intake of fluids like coconut water, lemon water, and ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) to maintain electrolyte balance. He also advised to cosume water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, and oranges and avoid high-protein, stale, and heavy/oily food. Doctors also said that people should wear lightweight, light-coloured, and loose-fitting cotton clothing along with covering head when going out.
