Mike Krzyzewski’s grandson arrested after fatal DWI Crash
According to police, Joseph Savarino was driving a Ford Explorer near the intersection of Cole Mill Road and Wyndham Lane around 9 p.m. when his vehicle struck the teenager, who was riding a bicycle in the same direction. The impact proved fatal.Court documents state that Savarino admitted to drinking earlier in the evening. A breathalyzer test later recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.11, above the legal limit.
He was taken into custody early Sunday morning and later released after posting a $100,000 bond.
A judge ordered him to surrender his license for at least 30 days, with further restrictions likely as the case moves forward. He is expected back in court next month. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities still piecing together the exact sequence of events.The case also draws attention to past incidents within the family. Savarino’s brother, Michael, previously faced a DWI charge in 2021 while connected to Paolo Banchero, though that situation ended with probation and community service.
