Dehradun: Eighty-six IPS probationers of the 78th regular recruit batch visited the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) battalion at Jolly Grant for first-hand exposure to disaster response operations.The officers, undergoing training at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, were led by deputy director Chaitanya Siriprolu.SDRF commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi outlined the force’s operational framework and stressed the need for coordination among agencies.“In a disaster-prone state like Uttarakhand, seamless coordination between SDRF, State Emergency Operations Centre and central forces like NDRF is essential.
Rapid information exchange and timely deployment of resources are key to life-saving operations,” he said.The trainees were briefed on major rescue missions, including the Silkyara tunnel operation and operations in Dharali and Reni, underscoring the challenges of working in mountainous terrain marked by erratic weather, difficult access and communication gaps.Officials also demonstrated modern rescue equipment, providing practical insights into field operations. The session highlighted the humanitarian aspects of disaster response and the need for quick decision-making under pressure.Senior SDRF officials, including deputy commandant Shubhank Raturi and assistant commandant Sushil Rawat, were present.
