Panaji: Justice Valmiki Menezes of the Bombay high court underscored the vital role of citizens in safeguarding democratic values, stating that the nation is currently “in a state of flux” and requires a strong civil society to navigate challenging times.“Our nation is going through trying times. We are in a state of flux. It’s a work in progress, and in all this, a strong civil society is very important,” he said.He was speaking at the first-ever alumni installation ceremony of Sharada Mandir School, wherein he urged the newly-formed alumni body to move beyond nostalgia and social networking.The ceremony also saw the installation of Shrinivas Dempo, a 1985 alumnus and chairman of the Dempo group, as charter president of the alumni association.Dempo expressed gratitude to his alma mater, noting that the true measure of a school lies in the enduring connection its alumni maintain with it.
