Rourkela: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for killing a youth with an axe in Bhaludungri village under Bonai police station limits.Fagu Munda (19) from Lahunipada police station limits in Bonai sub-division, went to Bhaludungri village on Monday to attend a marriage ceremony at his brother-in-law, Khageswar Munda’s house.On Monday evening, Fagu, Khageswar and another villager, were returning from the ceremony when an argument broke out over the route they were using with Rajesh Nayak of the village. The altercation lead to a scuffle, after which all involved dispersed.Around 11.30pm, Fagu, Khageswar and the other villager, were sitting in front of Khageswar’s house when Rajesh arrived and attacked Fagu near the ear with an axe. Fagu collapsed after sustaining grievous injuries.
Rajesh attempted to attack the others, but they managed to flee.After Rajesh left, Khageswar rushed Fagu to Bonai sub-divisional hospital. He was referred to Rourkela Government Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead on Tuesday.Khageswar lodged an FIR at Bonai police station on Tuesday. A police team and forensic experts inspected the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. The body was handed over to the family after the autopsy was conducted on Wednesday.Police arrested Rajesh on Wednesday and seized the axe from his possession. “We have arrested the accused and further investigation is underway,” said Pinki Kumari Murmu, IIC of Bonai police station.
