Agra: A 45-yr-old woman died of cardiac arrest days after police visited her home to question her 16-yr-old son in connection with an incident at Parshuram Chowk in Sikandara, where some youths allegedly climbed the structure and hoisted blue flags.
Durgesh Bhargav, a resident of Bhim Nagar, died on Monday. Her family alleged that a police team visited their house on April 17 to question the boy, who was not present, and left after waiting for some time.The family said Durgesh became distressed after the visit and feared her son’s arrest. They claimed her condition worsened over the following days, during which she stopped eating and drinking. She was taken to a hospital on Monday, where doctors declared her dead.
“The police said if we didn’t produce our son, they would take our other son,” her husband, Rakesh Bhargav, said.The postmortem report, received on Tuesday evening, cited cardiac arrest as the cause of death. The family alleged that police pressure led to mental stress, which contributed to her condition. DCP city Syed Ali Abbas, however, denied the allegations, saying, “Police had only visited to question the minor after his name surfaced during the probe, and no pressure was exerted.”The April 14 incident at Parshuram Chowk, which coincided with Ambedkar Jayanti, triggered protests by some organisations. Police arrested four people in connection with the case.
