Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addresses a public meeting in support of BJP candidate Prabhakar Pandit from the Udaynarayanpur Assembly constituency ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, in Howrah district on Wednesday, April 22, 2026
Lucknow: Calling it game over for Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said it was time for the state to embrace its Sanatan identity.Addressing three rallies in the poll-bound state, in Kolkata, Nadia and Howrah, the UP CM said: “Ey baar khela shesh, unnayan shuru (this time the game is over and development will begin).
The robbery by the Bengal govt from the money sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for development will stop. Ram Navami and Durga Puja programmes will be held with joy and celebration. Aamar Sonar Bangla will become a TMC-mukt Bangla. Ab Ondhokar hatbe, Suraj uthbe, Kamal khilbe (darkness will lift, the sun will rise, the lotus will bloom).”Hitting out at the West Bengal CM and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, Yogi said the two wanted to erase Bengal’s Sanatan identity.
He said Kolkata’s mayor had once claimed that half of Bengal’s population would speak Urdu, but BJP would resist that and ensure that only Bangla is spoken in Bengal. He quoted another TMC MP as having said ‘Kaaba in the heart, Madina in the eyes’, adding that it was time to let TMC know that Bengal has Kali in its heart and Belur Math in its eyes.“Bengal has made an unparalleled contribution to nation-building through the sacrifice, dedication and efforts of great personalities born on its soil.
At the heritage site where portraits of Rabindranath Tagore and Bharat Mata should have been displayed, TMC workers forcibly installed Mamata Banerjee’s photo. This an insult to Indian values and Bengal’s identity,” Yogi said.Blaming Opposition parties for having driven Bengal into ruin, the UP CM said this is a fertile land, rich in resources with talented youth, hardworking farmers and industrious entrepreneurs and traders.“However, the state was first looted by Congress, then the communists and over the past 15 years, by TMC. In the past 10 years, more than 7,000 large industries and thousands of MSME units have shut down, leaving over 30 lakh youth unemployed,” he said.Hitting out at TMC for its alleged appeasement politics, Yogi said cow slaughter was rampant in the state, Mamata Banerjee was irritated by the name of Lord Ram and did not permit Durga Puja, restricted processions and imposed curfews during festivals.Drawing a comparison with UP before BJP came to power in the state, he said before 2017, chaos, riots and curfews were common in the state, and ‘goonda tax’ used to be collected. “Taking the name of Ram would invite violence but today such disturbances are no longer possible in UP. Festivals like Ram Navami, Krishna Janmashtami, Kanwar Yatra, Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja are now celebrated freely. People in UP are living in a new era of Ram Rajya.
Bulldozers are used against the mafia, turning their illegal properties into highways or housing for the poor,” he said.In Udaynarayanpur, the CM met the mother of deceased BJP worker Subodh Jeet, allegedly killed by TMC workers and said: “TMC goons, by killing Subodh, have created thousands of workers like him. I also came to know that TMC goons were not allowing the BJP candidate’s rally to be held here and were not letting tents be put up. I then said I will hold a rally, and I have come to Udaynarayanpur after postponing several programmes.
”Speaking at the rally there, Yogi said after May 4, the countdown for “TMC goons” will begin, and they will be given a befitting reply.
