In a remarkable step towards empowerment, Bihar is spearheading a multidimensional rehabilitation initiative for 160 survivors of acid attacks in alliance with the Chhaanv Foundation. This groundbreaking program encompasses medical assistance, educational opportunities, skill enhancement, and livelihood initiatives, all designed to help victims regain their dignity and reintegrate seamlessly into society.

Patna: In a step towards empowering acid attack survivors, the Bihar Women and Child Development Corporation has partnered with Delhi-based Chhaanv Foundation to provide comprehensive rehabilitation support to affected women and children in the state.Under the initiative, around 160 survivors from across Bihar will receive holistic assistance covering medical treatment, education, skill development and sustainable livelihood opportunities. The programme aims to address not only physical recovery but also the social, economic and psychological challenges faced by survivors.Speaking on the occasion, Bandana Preyashi, managing director of the corporation, said acid attack survivors often come from marginalised sections of society and face lifelong struggles.

She said the state govt is committed to restoring their dignity and reintegrating them into mainstream society through a coordinated support system. The initiative, she added, ensures legal aid, quality healthcare, psychosocial counselling and effective rehabilitation to help survivors become self-reliant.As part of the collaboration, a special 20-day rehabilitation programme is underway at the Youth Hostel on Fraser Road here. The programme, which began on April 15 and will continue till May 5, involves the Chhaanv Foundation’s expert team conducting detailed one-on-one assessments of each survivor. Their mental, physical, economic and social needs are being evaluated through personalised counselling and in-depth interactions. Both organisations have committed to making the initiative long-term, with the aim of building a robust, inclusive and sensitive support system for acid attack survivors in Bihar.
