Police book case against illegal mining at Naquerim

Margao: Cuncolim police have registered an FIR against unknown persons for allegedly extracting minerals illegally from agricultural and other land in Naquerim, Betul, causing a loss of Rs 12 lakh to state govt.Police sources said that before July 2024, unknown accused persons excavated and extracted minerals from different survey numbers in Naquerim without obtaining the necessary licence or permit from the competent authority. The extracted minerals were subsequently transported to an unknown destination.The accused persons are alleged to have committed theft of state govt resources for personal gain.A case has been registered at Cuncolim police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Rules 3, 38 and 73(1) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Minor Minerals Concession Rules. Further investigation is under way.
