As the world observes Buddha Purnima in 2026, we will all realise the importance of the Buddha’s teachings: they help us become aware of ourselves, our desires, and our goals, leading us to be more self-conscious and kinder to ourselves and others.
The Buddha Purnima celebration is dedicated to Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death; its goal is to remind each person of the need to be peaceful and conscious. With so many problems in our lives today, it is crucial to apply Buddha’s wisdom to stay peaceful. Here are 5 teachings of Buddha that may help any person stay peaceful.
Apply the principle of mindfulness
The first thing Buddhists teach is to always stay mindful. By doing so, one focuses on their emotions in the current moment.
This way, one can avoid overthinking the future or past. By staying aware of the present moment, one gains clarity of their feelings and thoughts. Moreover, one should observe what is happening and remain indifferent to all changes.
Learn to accept everything
Another significant principle taught by Buddhists is that everything is constantly changing. We cannot be certain whether their happiness will last long. It is also true that there are both good and bad experiences in life.
Therefore, accepting the fact that one may experience difficult periods of life, we will find it easier to be patient and wait until things change.
Do not be attached and expect too much
The next thing that people can learn from Gautama Buddha’s teachings is that their attachments often cause suffering. People who expect too much from others and life in general often suffer because something happens unexpectedly. Hence, by remaining indifferent to what happens and not expecting much from other people, it will be easier for one to be in control of their emotions at all times.
Choose to be compassionate, not angry
Buddhism teaches one to always choose kindness. Being angry at people and blaming them for all one’s misfortunes is never useful and leads to more suffering. Hence, by responding to any difficulties with compassion and empathy, one will be able to stay calm, even if they face tough situations. Compassion allows one to perceive the situation from another side.
Strengthen oneself using meditation
Finally, one should meditate regularly in order to become stronger and calmer. This way, one will be able to stay peaceful and not lose their cool even in difficult conditions. Meditating helps one be aware of their thoughts and emotions, and thus they will be able to control their feelings better and not allow anything to get under their skin.
