A 25-year-old decorator in Nalanda allegedly died by suicide after facing relentless harassment and threats from moneylenders, despite repaying his loans with interest. Before his death, he recorded a video naming his alleged tormentors and appealing for justice. In a separate incident, a woman attempted suicide after her son was scolded.
Biharsharif: A 25-year-old youth from Maghdasarai village under Deepnagar police station area in Nalanda died allegedly by suicide on Friday night. He allegedly took this step after being tortured by moneylenders.While in another incident, a woman attempted suicide by consuming poison after a relative scolded her son. She is being treated at a hospital.The deceased, Santosh Kumar, who worked as a decorator, was married and consumed poison after facing continuous threats and alleged harassment despite repaying his loans with interest. Before his death, he recorded a video naming the accused and appealing for justice, while urging others to stay away from such moneylenders.His brother has filed an FIR in this regard.In the video, he alleged that he had taken loans from Virmani Yadav and Manoj Yadav of Golapur, and Pintu Yadav of Lalbagh. He claimed that even after repaying the full amount with interest, they continued to harass him mentally and issue threats.In his final message, Santosh appealed to CM Samrat Choudhary, MLA Shrawan Kumar, and local representatives, seeking justice in the matter.
His brother, Akash Kumar, said when Santosh’s condition deteriorated, he called him and informed that he had consumed a poisonous substance, asking to be taken to the hospital. He was rushed for treatment, but he died during treatment.His father, Upendra Malakar, said Santosh had been under severe stress for some time and was frequently abused and threatened over phone calls by the moneylenders.Deepnagar SHO Suman Kumar said the viral video has been taken as evidence and a detailed investigation is underway.
Based on the family’s complaint and the video, strict legal action will be taken against the accused.In a separate incident, a woman from a Nalanda village allegedly consumed a poisonous substance in a fit of anger after a family member scolded her son. She was admitted to Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences (BMIMS), where her condition is reported to be stable.
