Varanasi: Hundreds of women associated with Bhartiya Janata Party’s women’s wing took out a scooter rally on city roads on Saturday afternoon as part of campaign to mobilise people, especially women, to make proposed public meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at BLW ground on Apr 28 evening a grand success. After garlanding the statue of Bal Gangadhar Tilak at Sigra, the rally passed through Sajan crossing and Maldahiya and culminated at Azad Park, Lahurabir. The participants kept addressing passersby and telling them about opposition parties’ “stubborn stance” against Women’s Reservation Bill.“The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is a matter of women’s rights and dignity and opposition’s attempts to obstruct it are an insult to half the country’s population,” they said, adding that a grand torch procession will be taken out by the women’s wing on Apr 27.Earlier, on Friday evening, BJP state president and Union minister Pankaj Chaudhary, along with party’s state general secretary (organisation) Dharmpal Singh and many senior leaders, reviewed the preparations for the proposed public meeting of PM Modi.Chaudhary asked partymen to fulfil responsibilities assigned to them with dedication. To realise PM Modi’s resolve of Viksit Bharat, he said, participation of half the country’s population is essential.

Reiterating Modi’s views, he said: “When women are empowered, society is empowered, and when society is empowered, the nation becomes strong.” He said that making women self-reliant and enabling their advancement has been govt’s priority.Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam bill, he said, was proposed with the aim of providing 33% reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, but it could not be passed due to opposition.

He cited NDA govt’s previous decisions such as the Triple Talaq Bill and granting constitutional status to Other Backward Classes Commission and spoke about govt’s commitment to economic advancement, social and political participation and rights of women, backward classes and Scheduled Caste communities.Dharampal Singh said a campaign to mobilise people should be run at booth level for success of the PM’s event. The target should be to reach every woman voter and include them in the programme, he said, adding that the rally was an occasion to demonstratw govt’s commitment to dialogue with women and their empowerment. He said the entire responsibility of this programme rests with women. This conference will also send the message that women are capable of fulfilling every responsibility.
