Alexandra Eala had a difficult end to her Madrid Open journey, but she found comfort in the people closest to her. After her straight-set loss to Elise Mertens in the second round, the young Filipino star spent time with her elder brother Michael Francis Eala, better known as Miko, as she tried to move on from the tough defeat.The World No. 44 lost 2-6, 1-6 to Mertens on Friday, ending her singles run in Madrid earlier than she had hoped. Soon after, Alexandra shared warm family moments on social media. One picture showed her smiling beside Miko, who playfully placed his hand on her head while they posed together. It was a simple moment, but one that showed how important family support can be after a hard loss.

Alexandra stepped out for an Italian dinner with Miko after the match, clearly taking time to relax and reset.
In the photo she posted, she wore a leopard-print dress with a beige coat and gold earrings, while Miko chose a grey blazer with a powder blue shirt. She captioned the post with a lighthearted line: “They call me young Miko.”She also shared more quiet moments from her recovery time. One post showed her reading Jane Austen’s book “Sense and Sensibility” while enjoying a matcha latte, showing a calm side after a very busy tournament week.
On Saturday, Alexandra posted an emotional message for fans on Instagram and promised to return stronger. She wrote, “That’s it for Madrid! So grateful for my time here. Will be back stronger.”Even though the ending was disappointing, there were still strong moments during her tournament. In the first round of singles, Alexandra defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with an impressive 6-3, 6-3 win. It was one of her best performances of the week and showed her growing confidence on the big stage.In doubles, she partnered with Zeynep Sönmez and won their opening match 6-2, 6-2 against Chan Hao-ching and Fanny Stollar. However, their run ended in the next round against Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.Despite the early exit, Alexandra earned €47,195 in prize money from her Madrid Open campaign. She will next compete at the Catalonia Open in La Bisbal before heading to the Rome Open in May. For now, family, rest, and recovery seem to be her main focus before the next challenge begins.
