Thalapathy Vijay’s much discussed film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has run into fresh controversy, as villagers near Usilampatti staged a protest against the movie’s release. Natives from the region have claimed that their village’s name has been disrespected in the film.
As a mark of protest, residents from Papapatti and nearby areas raised black flags outside their homes. The issue has now gained attention, adding to the film’s existing challenges ahead of its release.
Madurai villagers raise black flags against ‘Jana Nayagan’
According to a report by News18, natives of Papapatti, Pagathevanpatti, and Peyampatti villages joined the protest. They alleged that certain scenes in ‘Jana Nayagan’ wrongly depicted their locality and hurt their sentiments.
The villagers strongly objected to how the village’s past events were depicted in the film. Protesters immediately sought action, demanding measures to halt the movie’s release.
Villagers demand an apology and the deletion of offensive scenes from the movie
As stated earlier, the protestors had definite demands. Firstly, they wanted a public apology from the director and the lead actor. Secondly, they wanted the government to ensure the scenes in question were removed from the film. Thirdly, they voiced their concerns regarding their village’s portrayal over time.
‘Jana Nayagan’ faces multiple issues ahead of release
‘Jana Nayagan,’ which was slated to hit the screens to coincide with the festive window of Pongal 2026, but was delayed owing to certification issues. Moreover, the film also faced a pre-premiere leak that led to arrests and police action initiated against the culprits. Despite this, the producers still hope for an release on May 8.
