KOLHAPUR: A 22-year-old college student from a village near Kolhapur city is booked for raping, recording intimate videos and photos and threatening a young woman.The young woman and the college student had known each other since 2023, said a senior cop. The young woman approached the police on Sunday night and registered the complaint, upon which the accused was detained and arrested. He was presented before the court on Monday, which granted police his custody till Wednesday.“We have invoked sections related to rape, IT Act for shooting obscene photos, videos and sending messages with unwelcome advances. One victim registered the complaint and suspect another young woman faced similar ordeal. We have sent the mobile of the accused for forensic analysis. They were knowing each other since 2023. Primary screening of the mobile shows that no videos, photos have been circulated on social media, they might be deleted.
We are verifying the claims made by the victim,” said senior police official requesting anonymity. Meanwhile, residents of the village gave call for bandh. The bandh is underway by closing shops and businesses.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
