The high-dose edibles left the staff feeling out of control and requiring hospital treatment. British Airways has since replaced the crew for the return flight and is investigating the passenger involved.
A routine flight turned into a frightening experience for three British Airways cabin crew last week. After arriving in Los Angeles from London Heathrow, the crew accepted sweets from a passenger, thinking it was just a friendly gesture of thanks.
But the treats were not harmless; they were laced with strong marijuana, leaving the staff panicked and in need of urgent medical attention.
Crew feels out of control after eating gummies
The three crew members only ate the sweets after the flight had landed. None of them knew the gummies contained THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, and the doses were very high (up to 300 mg per sweet).“They felt totally out of control and became panicked and scared. Their symptoms became worse, and the trio was taken to the hospital for treatment,” a source told The Sun.The reaction was severe enough to make airline bosses act quickly.
British Airways steps in to ensure safety
To prevent any impact on passengers, BA immediately replaced the original crew for the return flight. The affected staff later flew back to the UK as passengers.“If an entire crew became incapacitated at 330,000 feet after ingesting deadly drugs, the consequences don’t bear thinking about,” the source said, highlighting how dangerous the situation could have been mid-air.
Airline investigates passenger
British Airways is now trying to find the passenger who gave the sweets.“Bosses are trying to trace the passenger who tried to get the crew high. The flyer could face multiple police charges,” the source added, as quoted by The Sun.
A simple thank-you turns risky
Usually, giving sweets to the crew is a small gesture of gratitude. But in this case, it had serious consequences.“It is a godsend in this case; the sweets in question were not shared out among the crew until they had arrived in the US.
They were consumed in the crew bus after touchdown, and tired staff gratefully gobbled them up,” the source said, as quoted by The Sun.A British Airways spokesperson told The Sun, “A small number of our crew reported feeling unwell at their hotel and have since recovered. We sent a replacement crew to operate the return flight, and there was no impact on our customers.”
Crew fully recovers, no disciplinary action
