New Delhi: India’s HPV vaccination campaign has made a strong start, with nearly 3 lakh girls aged 14 vaccinated within two weeks of its launch, according to a health ministry official.

States such as Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha and Mizoram are leading the rollout. The HPV vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers among women, and early response suggests rising awareness among parents and schools. The drive is being conducted during the academic session and has continued despite ongoing exams. Officials expect the pace to pick up further once exams conclude, expanding coverage.Health teams are working with schools and local authorities to ensure access, while parents are being encouraged to get eligible girls vaccinated early.
