tnn FIR against axed Punjab mantri for abetting suicide | page 9Amritsar: Punjab police have registered a criminal case against dismissed cabinet minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, his father and his personal assistant following the suicide of Punjab State Warehousing Corporation district manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa in Amritsar.The FIR filed late on Saturday names Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, and aide Dilbagh Singh alias Baga under BNS provisions related to abetment of suicide, criminal intimidation and common intention.
Police have not announced any arrests so far.Before his death on Friday, Randhawa allegedly left behind a video blaming Bhullar. CM Bhagwant Mann asked Bhullar to step down, saying no official should be driven to such an extreme. Bhullar denied any wrongdoing and called for a thorough probe.The FIR followed a complaint by Randhawa’s wife, Upinder Kaur, a science teacher and mother of three. She alleged sustained pressure on her husband to award warehousing tenders to Sukhdev when the accused politician held the transport and jails portfolio. She also alleged that on March 13, her husband was called to Bhullar’s home in Patti, where he was assaulted in the presence of Sukhdev, the PA and others.The family claimed thre-ats continued, forcing them to send their children to relatives while Kaur took shelter at her parents’ home. Relatives have refused to cremate Randhawa, demanding immediate arrests.
