Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Daniel Robert went through a frightening moment on Sunday during spring training in Clearwater, Florida. The 31-year-old reliever suddenly collapsed on the mound during his first bullpen session at BayCare Ballpark.

He was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors later confirmed he had suffered a cardiac event. The good news is that he is now in stable condition and has since been released. The incident shocked everyone present at the Phillies camp. Manager Rob Thomson, who was standing nearby, saw everything happen in real time. “I was standing right behind him,” Thomson said. “It was scary because he went down, he started to get back up again and he went back down.

It was very scary, but he’s fine.” The moment spread concern across the team, especially given Robert’s recent health history.

Daniel Robert’s cardiac history, Phillies return, and what really happened during the bullpen collapse

This was not the first time Daniel Robert faced such a situation. Back in October, he had a similar cardiac event during a bullpen session at the Carpenter Complex. After that, doctors placed an implantable cardioverter defibrillator near his chest. This device helps control heart rhythm, and reports suggest it activated again during Sunday’s incident.

Even after several medical tests in Clearwater and at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, doctors were not able to find a clear reason behind his condition. That made Sunday’s moment even more concerning for those who knew his story.Despite everything, Robert stayed positive and focused on his return. He rejoined the Phillies on a minor-league deal in February after becoming a free agent in November. Last season, he had a 4.15 ERA in 15 games, showing he could still contribute on the mound. What stands out more is his connection with the team. After returning, Robert openly spoke about how much the Phillies supported him during his recovery. “I feel like I have a real bond with the Phillies,” he said. “I’m super grateful to them, legitimately the entire staff. I owe everything to them.”His wife Jillian also played a big role during this time. As an ICU nurse, she helped him understand everything happening around his health. “She’s an ICU nurse so she’s kind of been my translator with all the doctors,” Robert shared. “She was so good keeping family and friends informed. She thought it was honestly a miracle that I was perfectly fine 20 minutes later.”For now, the biggest relief is that Daniel Robert is safe. The Phillies and their fans will now wait for further updates on his recovery and whether he can return to baseball again.
