Brandon Nimmo is under an eight-year, long-term, $162 million contract that he initially signed in December 2022 when he and the Mets agreed to an extension of his existing deal. Nonetheless, his career direction changed significantly after a big event when, in November 2025, the outfielder was sold to the Texas Rangers by the New York Mets.
The sale was part of a trade that saw Marcus Semien, and it represented a major change since Nimmo was only in the fourth year of his contract.Although the teams changed and his trajectory has moved over the years, Nimmo’s financial structure remained largely unchanged and remains one of the wealthiest in the business. Nimmo will receive a base salary of $20.25 million in the 2026 season. The cash earnings during the year increased to about $21.25 million, with him receiving an assignment bonus of $ 1 million. The following bonus became activated when Nimmo accepted waiving his entire no-trade clause to finalize the deal with Texas.
The Mets were also to provide the Rangers with $5 million as part of the trade deal to reduce the salary due to Nimmo.
The transfer of that payment will take place in September 2026. Although the team has changed, the value of the luxury tax in the contract remains unchanged, as the team has an Average Annual Value of 20.25 million homesteads throughout the deal.
Contract duration and future outlook for the MLB star
Nimmo’s contract is structured to last through the 2030 MLB season, providing long-term stability for both the player and the Rangers. The agreement included a $2 million signing bonus, paid at the start of 2023.After the 2025 season, the outfielder will be left with about $101.25 million on his contract. Between 2026 and 2030, he will have a basic pay of $20.25 million per annum. Having fulfilled all the conditions of the contract, Nimmo will become a free agent without restrictions before the 2031 season, and this will likely create another great opportunity in the free-agent market.
