Bryan Hodgson did not just arrive as a new coach, he made people laugh right away. The new Bryan Hodgson, who recently took charge at Providence Friars men’s basketball, went viral after cracking a simple joke about his wife during his first press conference.
The moment came on Tuesday in Rhode Island, where reporters were meeting him for the first time. Just days earlier, Hodgson had left South Florida Bulls men’s basketball after their March Madness run ended. But instead of keeping things serious, he chose to show his personality. While talking about his skills as a recruiter, he pointed at his wife and said, “If you ever wanna question my recruiting abilities, just take a look at my wife Jordan.”
The room burst into laughter. The clip quickly spread online, and fans loved it. In just a few seconds, Hodgson gave people a reason to remember him, not just as a coach, but as someone easy to connect with.

Bryan Hodgson, 38, was officially named the 17th head coach of Providence on Sunday. He replaced Kim English, whose time ended after a Big East Tournament loss to St. John’s Red Storm men’s basketball.Hodgson comes in with strong results. At South Florida, he led the team to a 25-9 season.
They won the American Athletic Conference regular-season title and made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2011–12 season. Their run ended with an 83-79 loss to Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball.Before that, he coached at Arkansas State Red Wolves men’s basketball for two seasons, where he built a 45-28 record.At Providence, leaders are confident about his future. School president Kenneth Sicard said in an official statement, “Bryan brings a strong track record of leadership and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
I am confident that the future is bright for Friar men’s basketball, and I eagerly anticipate seeing the team reach new milestones under their new leader’s guidance.”Hodgson also shared his vision clearly. He said, “This is a program with a proud tradition, passionate fan base, and a city that truly embraces its team. We’re going to build something that reflects that pride. We will be tough, disciplined, and relentless in our pursuit of excellence.”Away from the court, Hodgson’s life is simple and family-focused. He and his wife, Jordan Hodgson, have a two-year-old son named Jett. Jordan graduated from the University of Alabama in 2021.That small joke about her may have gone viral, but it also showed something bigger, Hodgson is comfortable, confident, and ready to connect with people from day one.
