Eager candidates lined up: 181 candidates validated for Tripura ADC elections; major parties contesting all 28 seats ahead of April 12 vote

Agartala: A total of 181 candidates have been cleared to participate in the upcoming elections for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) set for April 12.Anurag Sen, the secretary of the Tripura State Election Commission, reported that everything is proceeding smoothly in the electoral process.

The nomination period wrapped up on March 25, during which 186 candidates submitted a total of 268 nomination papers.After thorough verification across all 28 ADC constituencies, 181 candidatures were found valid, while five were rejected due to various issues.

Sen said candidates have until Sunday to withdraw their nominations. In terms of party representation, major political parties are actively participating across the constituencies.

Main opposition in ADC BJP and ruling Tipra Motha are contesting in all 28 seats, while the CPM is running candidates in 25.Congress has nominees in 27 seats, and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is contesting in 24. In addition, candidates from the CPI and various independents are in the mix. However, there have been no violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) so far.
