Margao: A 62-year-old man was arrested by Fatorda police on Saturday after he allegedly molested two minor girls, aged 5 and 7, at a store in Borda, Fatorda while their mother was occupied at the billing counter.The accused, identified as Tiburcio Monteiro, a resident of Tariwada, Ponda, was tracked down based on CCTV footage from the store and subsequently taken into custody. He was produced before the local court, which granted three days of police custody for further investigation.The incident came to light after the girls informed their mother of what had transpired. She immediately filed a complaint with the Fatorda police.
An offence has been booked against Monteiro under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 296(A) and 79, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and section 8(2) of the Goa Children’s Act.Further investigation is under way.
