Reportedly, she alleged that he entered her caravan without permission at a shooting location in Fort Kochi and attempted to sexually assault her.

He was remanded to 14 days in judicial custody and lodged in Ernakulam sub jail. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A Bengali actor who accused Malayalam director Ranjith Balakrishnan of sexual misconduct in 2024 has now reacted to his recent arrest in a fresh case.

She said the development validates her earlier concerns.Talking to the media, the actress noted it took her 15 years to come forward due to lack of support systems at the time. Kerala Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian has also assured full government support to the current survivor.

Actor’s strong reply to Ranjith

The Bengali actor, who had filed a complaint against Ranjith in 2024, spoke to Asianet News about the latest arrest.She referred to her allegation of sexual assault during an audition for the film ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’ in 2009.

The actor said, “Karma is a bitch, it leaves nobody. Whatever goes around comes around. He may be an acclaimed director or a famous figure, but this recent incident proves that he is essentially not a good human being.”

15-year delay in coming forward

The actress explained why it took her so long to speak up, “Back then, I knew no one. Social media was not that relevant. My case was kind of nullified because of time constraints and technical issues. Maybe he thought he would go scot-free yet again.

But no.” She expressed support for the current complainant and hoped the case would be pursued properly this time.

Call for accountability

The actor stressed the need for stronger safety measures for women in the workplace, “These kinds of sexual predators should be put behind bars. This should be set as an example that women deserve respect in their workplace.” She added that procedural limitations had prevented her own case from reaching a conclusive outcome despite her efforts.

Government stand on the case

As reported by TOI City, Kerala Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian said the government stands firmly with the survivor. He added that action will be taken regardless of the individual’s status.
