Since the sequel to the beloved animated OTT film ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ was confirmed to be in development, fans have been waiting eagerly. Recently, while talking about the upcoming project and how they are going to top the hype of the first film, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans weighed in on what they have planned for ‘KPop Demon Hunters 2.’

The Korea Times shared a report, citing that the creators of ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ are excited about the sequel and how it will be bigger than the first one. A press conference was recently held in Seoul where Kang, the film’s director, discussed the sequel.She stated, “We are currently holding onto some big ideas for the sequel. While we cannot reveal specific details yet, we plan to make a film that is even bigger in scale and more eventful than the first one.
Just like the first one, we are making a movie that we personally want to see.”Appelhans also weighed in, sharing that one of the main aims for the second film is to do what they did before, but in an unexpected manner. He added that they wish to do it “in the sense of surprising fans by doing things that are unexpected, that are breaking rules and that are pushing the boundaries.”
Chris Appelhans wants to remain authentic this time as well
Appelhans, who co-directed the film, further discussed the importance of staying true to what they created.
Labeling it as ‘Koreaness’, the director stated, “Underneath all of that authenticity is ‘Koreanness.’ It is the soul of the movie on every level, from the girls’ characters to the music to the mythology.”Music was also a big part of the film. While discussing what they have in store for the second film, Kang shared some thoughts. She revealed that she has considered incorporating trot as well as heavy metal music in the coming sequel.
She revealed that she wishes to mix both music genres and present something new to the world. She also emphasized that trot is a “unique” style of Korean music that deserves more recognition worldwide.
