TRICHY: Actor and TVK president Vijay’s campaign in Trichy on Thursday triggered chaotic incidents on the roads, including accidents and traffic violations. A police constable suffered a leg fracture in an accident involving a car belonging to TVK general secretary for election campaign management Aadhav Arjuna.The injured constable has been identified as S Sathish, 27, attached to the Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion. He was on duty at Marakkadai near Gandhi Market, where Vijay campaigned.

After concluding his campaign around 1pm, Vijay and other senior leaders began leaving the venue in their vehicles. As the crowd began to disperse, police started removing the fencing and barricades to allow the smooth movement of the vehicles.
In the chaos, Aadhav Arjuna’s car struck Sathish. The front wheel ran over his right leg and caused a fracture.TVK cadres rushed Sathish to government hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Around 3pm, Arjuna and a few other party functionaries visited him.
The injured police constableEarlier, as Vijay was going to the corporation zone II office near Palakkarai to file his nomination, a couple riding a motorcycle parallel to his convoy fell on the road and sustained injuries.
The accident happened near Melapudur around 11.20am. Police and members of the public rushed to help them. Noticing the accident, Vijay stepped out of his van, approached them and inquired about their wellbeing. He asked them to drive carefully and advised the woman to seek medical care.
The couple left on the same motorcycle.TVK had earlier requested its supporters not to follow Vijay’s vehicle as it proceeded to the campaign venue.
However, hundreds of people ignored the appeal and trailed the convoy from Trichy airport to Palakkarai between 11am and 11.30am. This created commotion among the public.In the large crowd that gathered at Marakkadai, at least two women collapsed due to exhaustion. One of them was rushed to Trichy Government Hospital.Vijay’s visit caused heavy traffic congestion in places like Gandhi Market, Thennur, Singarathope, Puthur and Head Post Office. A police officer said cases would be registered in connection with accidents and traffic violations.
