Mortal remains of Ujjain student reaches home from Canada

UJJAIN: The mortal remains of Gurkeerat Singh Manocha, an Ujjain student who was killed in Canada on 14 March, reached his hometown on Friday, 22 days after his death.Madhya Pradesh Chief minister Mohan Yadav paid floral tribute to Gurkeerat at a makeshift memorial set up outside the family’s residence in Parshwanath Colony.Members of the Sikh community, acquaintances, and neighbours gathered at the family home to pay their last respects.Gurkeerat’s body had arrived at Ahmedabad airport on Thursday evening, where customs and documentation formalities were completed. It was then dispatched by ambulance from Ahmedabad to Ujjain at around 9 pm on Thursday night.Gurkeerat, an MBA student, was attacked in Fort St John, Canada, where a group of 10 to 12 youths first assaulted him and then ran a vehicle over him. The critically injured student was hospitalised, where he succumbed to his injuries.
