Govt e-Marketplace reports 7.4% fall in transactions

Government e-Marketplace GeM is a dedicated e-Market service platform, a National public procurement portal, governed by Government of India for marketing different goods and services.

State-run public procurement platform Govt e-Marketplace (GeM) recorded a 7.4% decline in transactions in FY26, with gross merchandise value (GMV) at Rs 5 lakh crore, compared with Rs 5.4 lakh crore in the previous financial year, officials said Monday.

GeM CEO Mihir Kumar attributed the fall largely to lower procurement by coal ministry, whose share in total GMV fell sharply. “Last year, the ministry of coal contributed close to 39% of GMV. This year, it has come down to about 20%, mainly due to unique procurement related to mine development and operations services, which was significantly lower this year,” Kumar said. Despite the decline, coal remained top procurement ministry for GeM.
