Bhim Vakani, a veteran actor and father of Disha Vakani, passed away this morning in Ahmedabad. The news left many from the industry sad and in a state of shock. The news of his sudden demise was confirmed by Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer Asit Kumarr Modi.
Not many know that apart from featuring in many Hindi and Gujarati films, the veteran actor also acted in an episode of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah along with his daughter Disha Vakani. He had a long career over many years and was recognised for his roles in popular TV shows like Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Not just television, Bhim Vakani also worked in many Bollywood blockbuster and critically acclaimed films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Lagaan.
He also worked in Devdas, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles.He also worked in Gujarati theatre and television, where people admired his skills and hard work.
Even though he was not often in the spotlight, his regular work made him a familiar face in the industry.The veteran actor owned a theatre group and trained his kids Disha and Mayur Vakani since childhood. Disha and Mayur performed many plays for their father’s theatre group which further enhanced their acting skills.Asit Kumarr Modi pays tribute Earlier today, Asit Kumarr Modi had confirmed the news of Bhim Vakani’s demise. In a conversation with MoneyControl, he shared, “He wasn’t unwell, but we got to know from his family in the morning that he has passed away. Bhim Vakani was a great painter, actor, and director he even worked in Lagaan. His daughter Disha Vakani’s success as Dayaben… he played a big part in that. He contributed a lot to building Disha’s career.
We had a family-like bond; whenever he came to Mumbai, he’d come home, and we’d hang out. It feels like a part of my family has gone with him.”
