In a heart-wrenching bid to transfer a grandmother struggling with respiratory issues from ANMMCH to a private facility, a family’s heartfelt plea has ignited a heated debate. The attendant reports dire conditions and insufficient oxygen supply in the general ward, while hospital officials rebut claims of emergency admission being turned down, asserting that the patient arrived post-OPD hours.
Gaya: Conflicting accounts by an attendant and the ANMMCH administration have led to a piquant situation. Ritik Raushan, a resident of Atri, said his grandmother, Pyari Devi, developed breathing problems on April 4 and was referred from a PHC to ANMMCH, where she was admitted to the emergency ward and received “proper treatment.
” He alleged that the next day she was shifted to the general ward without informing them, where he found “no oxygen facility, poor hygiene and overall mismanagement”. Seeking better care, he asked for a wheelchair, but claimed the doctor refused help, saying he was taking the patient out against medical advice. “On account of sheer helplessness… I brought the two-wheeler inside,” he said, shifting her to a private hospital.
He failed to produce any proof of patient’s admission to the ANMMCH.However, ANMMCH superintendent Dr KK Sinha denied admission to emergency ward, stating the patient came to OPD “after the OPD closure time.” A Rs 25,000 penalty was imposed on the security agency for allowing motorised two-wheeler inside the patient area of the OPD, he said.
