Lamar Odom is pushing back on a personal claim that resurfaced in a recent documentary. It has again drawn attention to a painful chapter of his life. The former Los Angeles Lakers star addressed comments made by Khloe Kardashian about his late father, Joe Odom, and what allegedly occurred during his 2015 medical crisis. The conversation, sparked by Netflix’s Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, revisits the night Odom nearly lost his life in Las Vegas. While Kardashian’s account painted a tense and emotional scene, Odom now says parts of it do not align with the man he knew.

Lamar Odom candidly spoke when asked about Khloe Kardashian’s recollection. In the documentary, she claimed his father urged doctors to withdraw life support. “Joe just said, ‘Don’t put him on life support, turn those machines off,’ ” Kardashian recalled. “And I remember walking in around that time, and I kid you not, it was a scene out of a movie. And I was like, ‘Sorry, Joe. I’m still his wife. What do you need?’”She added that Joe Odom asked for “a pair of Nikes and $100 and a hotel room for the night,” and later said, “Joe left and never came back.”Odom, however, does not agree with his ex-wife’s statement. “I was knocked out and asleep at that time, but if you know Joe Odom, I don’t think that’s something that would ever come out of his mouth,” he said. “He was my biggest fan. I don’t know where that got caught, translated. I just can’t see him ever, ever doing that.”His response reflects a desire to protect his father’s memory. Joe Odom passed away in 2021, and Lamar has often spoken about their complicated yet meaningful relationship.
After his father’s death, he wrote, “Life is not promised. My pops and I had our differences but at the end of the day I knew he loved me and I loved him and that’s really all that matters.”
Khloe Kardashian once punched on Lamar Odom’s face
The documentary does not shy away from the strain their relationship endured. Kardashian spoke openly about the toll of Odom’s addiction and the breaking point that followed. Recalling one moment after his relapse, she said, “I just punched him in his face.”She explained how trust had eroded by then. “Lo and behold, he had a phone. He was better than I knew. He was playing me so I can continue this lifestyle for him.” That moment marked a shift, one that eventually led to their divorce being finalized in 2016.Even now, the history between them feels layered rather than settled. Odom has acknowledged that their bond, in some form, remains. “But once you’re family, you’re always family, so she ain’t going nowhere.”Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom is now streaming on Netflix.
